Core Paths In Clackmannanshire

17 August 2009

The Clackmannanshire Council Core Paths Plan, including maps showing all the core paths in the county, is now available for download.

It is split into two parts, Clackmannanshire Council Core Paths Plan Part 1 (PDF, 1.85Mb) and Clackmannanshire Council Core Paths Plan Part 2 (PDF, 1.19Mb).

Check it out!

Having only just seen the maps I haven't had time to have a proper look, but here are a couple of early thoughts.

This is a great resource and an awful lot of work must have gone into it. There are paths here that we haven't trodden and will explore bit by bit.

I was surprised to see the A91 between Tillicoulty and Dollar included (path 135).

Walking tight up against an A road is never going to be a pleasant experience, but this section is also dangerously bendy. Only last year fireman John Noble was killed in an accident at a 'serious accident blackspot' along here - see the Daily Record report of the crash.

Who in their right mind would walk along it when there are much better alternatives nearby to both the north and south?

Saying that, part of the lovely path between Tillicoultry and Dollar, number 139, just to the north, which must surely be walked by far more people 'in the know' and, unless I'm mistaken, is a traditional route, didn't make it into the final list of core paths.

Note that just because it isn't in the list doesn't mean you can't walk this way.

I highly recommend it!

The Clackmannanshire candidate core path maps are still available to view online and you ought to be able to decipher the reason for path 139 being excluded from the final list from this summary of comments made on the candidate Clackmannanshire core paths plan.
