Himalayan Balsam Pulling Event - Join In The Fun!
I referred to the problem with Himalayan Balsam in an earlier walk along the River Devon.
Come along on Monday, 13 July 2009 and join in the fun pulling the stuff up before it seeds.
Meet at Strathdevon Primary School in Dollar (click link for map!) at 10.00am and stay as long as you like.
If you can't make it until later, keep reading!
It WILL be fun.
Not Like Gardening!
It isn't like weeding in the garden. This stuff is tall so you don't have to bend much and it pulls up really easily.
Within minutes you'll see the big difference you're making for our native species that are struggling to compete.
Dogs
According to Audrey Morrison from Clackmannanshire and Stirling Environment Trust, who is leading the project, it's OK to bring a dog provided it's kept under control etc.
Popping Along Later?
The pulling goes on until 2.00pm but if you want to join in for just half an hour or so, that would be helpful and would be appreciated.
So what if you can't be there for the off at 10.00?
I asked the question and this was the answer:
We will be working along the old dismantled railway line (the Devon Way), just down from the school. So if those who turn up later amble down they should find us okay.
If I'm there (we will be for a bit) and it looks like it might not be as obvious as it sounds (and I'm a little confused as the Devon Way isn't exactly alongside the river at that point), I'll endeavour to get a temporary sign put up or something - it just needs a bit of board and a marker pen.
For More Details ...
See the notice on the CGMI website for more details such as who to contact if you want to know more and what best to wear, etc.
Post-event update
We went. We were late. We couldn't find the group though we walked some way along the Devon Way and also off in the other direction. It turned out they'd gone down to the river somewhere.
