Progress Update

18 June 2009

It might seem a bit quiet here but work is afoot.

I have been putting time into tidying up the most recent walk, and it's much improved.

One issue that is both stylistic and technical is how to handle detours and options in walk descriptions.

An easy option would simply be to stick to the main fixed route and not to mention that you can make a short cut here, or take a detour to see something there, or if it has been raining a lot it might be best to go that way.

I already do two versions - one full and one concise, and that helps cut out a lot of stuff that you don't need just to follow the way round.

I've now added the idea of a 'cut-out' (not sure of the right terminology) so you get a visual clue that this is outside the main flow of text. At the moment I can only make it the full width of the page, and the way it prints needs a bit of tweaking.

You can see it on the most recent walk write-up - scroll down to the bit about going onto the bridge over the Devon Way.

There's also an issue with printing where a photo falls off the bottom of a page. I don't have a solution for that at the moment except for juggling things so it's unlikely to happen.

But pages do now print a lot better than before.
